Whaledriver, I work w/ a cognitive behavioral therapist. In 99, I underwent EMDR; it was a most frightening experience and I didn't return. The reasons matter not now. I did however make the return. All I can say is that I don't know how it works, I just know that it did for me. B/c of follow up eye movement rapid desenthesization treatment, and the work that followed on my part, my mind cannot see the images; it would take great effort on my part to see them, and I don't NOW allow myself to go there. Amazingly, it really is a "simple" process. From personal experience, I will share w/ you that not sticking w/ it in 99 (I started in 94) was a most costly expense to myself. I don't for a minute regret my return and subsequent journey through it, as it was and is a most life enriching and enhancing and empowering journey....the most fulfilling of my life thus far.
