Let's hear some predictions for what's going to happen in tomorrow's VP debate.

The question I want answered is if Biden strikes down Palin, will she become more powerful than he can possibly imagine? Tongue out

Sarah Palin's no Obi-Wan Kenobi Smile.

Seriously, I think Biden will sound like a bully if he goes after her. He should just stick to his differences with McCain. She will either answer well, or she won't (and I doubt she'll answer with much specificity), and that will be that. But if he is the least bit condescending, that will grab all the headlines. He needs to stick to his talking points and be very, very restrained.

I suspect she'll do better than she did in the Couric interviews, because she's been better prepared this time. I also suspect that she won't do spectacularly well without a teleprompter. Her performance won't be enough to reverse Obama's gains in the polls, and it probably won't be enough to preserve her credibility as a national candidate in future elections.

I predict a lot of lipstick on a lot of pigs. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. And please people after the debate lets make this the home for debate about the debate we have way too many discussion boards all about the same thing.

My prediction is that, like the presidential debate, those for McCain/Palin will claim Palin won. Those for Obama/Biden will claim Biden won. Every eye movement, every facial tick, every word spoken, or not spoken, will be analyzed in excruciating detail through the lense of partisan bias. There will be no real objective, logical measure for either side's claim to victory, but that won't matter for the true believers. The few undecideds who's opinions might be swayed won't amount to much and the entire circus will continue chugging along the way it's supposed to, with the clowns performing ever more outlandish and silly tricks.

And, I predict that I'll find something far more productive to do with my time than watching it. Laughing

The expectations for Palin have now been set very, very, very.....low. So, it will be hard for her to surprise anyone with a poor performance. Biden is exceptionally knowledgeable about many issues; as others have said, one of his biggest challenges will be to avoid appearing arrogant or condescending or like a bully.

If McCain was really smart, he would somehow induce Tina Fey to step in and take Palin's place and wow the crowd (the tipoff, of course, would be that Fey would be much more coherent, but she would do a great job...lol).

Personally, I can hardly wait to watch...lol. In the end, though, the VP debate won't be the thing that makes "the" difference in the outcome of the election...

(There is a very funny YouTube video featuring a song about Palin; just search on YouTube for "Hey Sarah Palin"...language alert for those who might be offended...Wink)

I'll have to look that up on YouTube, neardc....thanks!

I'm thinking that they are deliberately setting the expectations low, so that tomorrow night's "spin" can be all about how well she did, if she just manages to speak in complete sentences?!

Listen, if you all get bored with that, you can always tune into Canada's first round of debates ... we've got 5 candidates in the running. Starts tomorrow night at 9pm EST.

Steven Harper, current Prime Minister, stands for the Conservatives, (generally feeling is that he is Bush''s man in Ottawa ...), Stephan Dion for the Liberals,(recently elected Party Leader, he's a 'decent man', but a little too ivory tower for most), Jack Layton for the NDP ( a long standing 'leftie' who bicycles EVERYWHERE), Gilles Duceppe for the the Bloc Quebecois (tooting the Separtist line for Quebec and the longest 'in power' of the bunch), and Elisableth May for the Green Party (known for her 'honesty', and representing for the first time ever the Green Party in the National Public Debate.) They are all gunning for the 'job' of Prime Mininster, leader of Canada. We are going to the polls over the next two weeks.

Bets are on that Harper witll take it and finally get his majority. (He's been 'governing' with a minority government since in office ...) The 'left' remains too splintered among the other parties. It's a pity cuz the general feeling again is that Harper, left to his own devices, will institute too many 'neo-con' policies, like beefing up (again) military spending, cutting health care, education and arts funding, and, to cover the deficit and potential 'ripple effect' from the States, increasing taxes ...

Tomorrow's debate is intended to focus on the 'current economic situation', Harper's 'strong suit', and jibberish to most everyone else.

So again, in case you get bored with Palin & Biden, check it out on CBC, our national broadcaster ... .

As the world turns eh?

(Was that a good enough segue back onto the thread topic ??? Wink Tongue out )

o' grace, how COULD you !!! Wink

I do believe the ehA moderators are 'tuning up' ... and just 'watching' alot more carefully, in general. All's good as long as you avoid that horrifying and debilitating word 's m u g '.

Worse, of course, is that ultra taboo word, 's m u r f ' ...

LOL.

Personally, I think that Palin will do better than people think she will (see the speech she gave at the convention). It won't be as good as that, of course, but I think she will do quite well.

That being said, I think Biden will come out the quote unquote "winner" of the debate, barring any major gaffes, or it will be a draw. It will still be good to watch though.

I'll probably make somewhat of an effort to switch between the two, but what I saw of the French language debate last night was like...watching paint dry. But the translators' voices weren't exactly inspiring, either. I should really improve my French.

I'm embarrassed to say that I know more about American politics than I know about my own country's right now....

After hearing so many comments about how the VP debate will turn out, I have suspended any predictions about either party. For me, it's "wait and see." The media's predictions have saturated all of the broadcasting systems over the past few days, and I'm sure both Biden and Palin are well aware of how they are expected to present themselves.

Because they are both intelligent people, I am hoping that the most crucial areas of debate are counter to what is expected. If so, we might at least get an interesting debate, although to some, both of them proving the media predictions correct would be even more interesting.

I would not want to be in Palin's shoes for anything in the world right now. After watching her consistently prove how uninformed she is on some subjects, she is now expected to redeem herself. That sort of pressure would have to be excrutiatingly intense.

Even though I don't particularly care for her, I don't want her to blow it tonight.

I agree with scorpio (as I did on another thread this afternoon....we're just on the same page today!) Sarah Palin is only the second woman on a major-party ticket and I don't want to see her fall on her face. I'm supporting Obama, but I still don't want her to fail badly. I have to say I was squirming when watching the Katie Couric interviews; Gov. Palin was so inarticulate it was downright uncomfortable.

I too will likely be 'switching' between the two - for that overall 'overview' affect.

It behooves you to learn more about the Canadian model Faira.
