My son, my daughter and my son's friends (high school thru college age) all loved Zombieland.

My stomach is queasy from it....
(Parts were funny (Bill Murray was the best!), but overall.... blech from this old lady!)

Last six months...in the theatre...hmm....

Wolverine: Generally entertaining, but loaded with too many visual cliches and stupid moments.

Departures: Quite good, and very well-handled for an awkward topic, but a bit melodramatic in places.

Ponyo: Not Miyazaki's best, but a good, fun movie that deserved a much broader audience than it got.

And my choice is...

Still Walking: Kind of a different outing for Koreeda, like a snarkier, more modern Ozu. But still, an excellent, warts-and-all portrayal of a less-than-ideal family, with plenty of quiet, squirm-inducing moments. Koreeda is still one of the best - if not the best - Japanese directors working today.

Tie between District Nine and The Proposal (I think that was under six months ago)
Boy talk about two movies in polar opposite genres! District Nine was good but I left the theater in a panic attack! Liked The Proposal - typical Sandra Bullock romance film but very cute.

Up is a great animated film with atypical hero characters. Also liked the re-release of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3D.

Star Trek the prequel was great fun. Nice to see how the main characters got their start back in Starfleet Academy.

I also don't go to the cinema much, but I did make a point for Star Trek and totally loved it. Will be getting the DVD.

The best movie I have seen in the last six months came out in 1928 and I watched it for the class I'm taking. It was The Passion of Joan of Arc, directed by Carl Th. Dreyer. It's a silent film and is considered by many film critics, academic and popular, and historians to be one of the greatest films of all time. I have to agree with that assessment. This film is phenomenal!

I would go with Inglourious Basterds as well, followed closely by District 9.
