It is legit, but that's what it costs (which is why I opted not to use it myself...lol). If you want to just put an end to your misery, go ahead and pay for it. If you want to try to see if you can get Malwarebytes to work, you can still try that...

What happens when you try to run Malwarebytes?

reinstalled the program again. Says it failed the install, but when I dc the exe icon it ran. Here's hoping.

I need everyone out there to clap their hands if they believe in little malware zapping fairies.

Oh; hooray! clap, clap, clap!

So, you're actually seeing the Malwarebytes screen and it's showing you that it's scanning files?

This is a good example why people should have external harddrives for backup..

Almost all computers nowadays have rescue and recovery to restore the computer back to it's original state prior to the virus or malware attack.Takes less than an 1/2 hour to do an R&R..
I hear ya. It's not my computer. I'm just trying to help her fix it, but I don't know much. Being on a MAC, I am rarely bothered by anything virusy.

well for some reason the system restore setup was turned off. I do not know why ... lolI turned it back on, but not before the problem. The system restore I did was just so I could restore personal guard to the task manager and find it.

Depends on the manu..and what they call it!
She may have done this.. depends on when the malware infected the PC and when the computer backup the image up on the partition! If a backup was done with the malware then R&R wouldn't work.

Oh; you want to turn it off while you're removing the virus and then turn it back on once the computer is clean. That way the virus won't be part of any restore points...
