What does it mean when a topic gets closed. I see these grayed out topics and wonder what is going on.
Are some threads too dangerous to continue? I thought atheists were more accepting of controversial subjects.
Or were they simply obscene. Does that mean the moderators closed a naughty thread.

I have seen postings from eH Hosts who have closed a thread because it had degenerated into things that break eH rules: personal attacks etc. Haven't seen one closed because of subject matter. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen!

There is nothing virtuous in being open minded to idotic ramblings and there is nothing virtuous in being closed minded when new evidence is available. The key is to know when to unlock the door...

I'm going with Sassafras on this one.

I've seen them Closed at the request of the OP. The OP felt like people were....."unsympathetic". I say that because what may seem to be a personal attack is often (as Dennis opined) a differing view.

I've also seen some Closed when one of more Posters lost their minds in their rant!

You can usually still view the Thread. You just can't Post there.

For real clarification, though, you could ask one of the Volunteer Community Leaders.....

No need to ask... I closed it because the thread was discussing a part of my personal life that I was uncomfortable discussing here in this group.

We can talk about about other parts of my personal life though... like... I lost playing hearts last night but then I won the final championship hand against my 80 year old mother, sister, and brother-in-law... Of course I had to do a victory dance...

Not sure what you're talking about? I wasn't making reference to any particular thread or OP. Sorry if I gave you that impression? Didn't mean to!

But it certainly does sound like a doozy of a thread, and I'm sorry I missed it!

And I might have enjoyed seeing that victory dance, too. I miss all the fun, it seems.....
