Disclaimer time once again: Nothing posted here is meant to anger, pick on, single out or offend anyone of either gender, or anyones pet(s) either for that matter.

First let me say that I am an animal lover, but I do not own a pet at this time because it would not be fair to the animal(s) due to my work schedules among other considerations.

Maybe eH could put a check box some place on the profile page. One can check if they have a pet(s), and the main purpose is to let the matches know and if allergies or other things may be a concern.

Really no need to fill out the entire profile with more information on the pet(s) than the person. I do not think this site is for matching pets. It seems more like it is for matching people.

eHarmony does not match people based on their pet preferences because there is no research data showing that pet preferences have any bearing on a couple's long-term compatibility.

Thank you Cola, that is one of the reasons for this post. Pets really have no reason to be mentioned in a persons profile at all for matching purposes.

I am just trying to suggest some way to limit the references to pets in a considerable number of matches that is excessive. And I do not want to upset pet owners who just simply must include their pets. Trying to balance things just a little.

Perhaps that research should be done? Pet-threads seem to generate some strong feelings. It may be that there really are compatibility trends to be found in pet attitudes.

Were there questions in eH's personality test about pets? I don't remember.

That sounds like an interesting subject to research(lol). I had a German Shepherd that went everywhere with me for 17 years. The difference in my humble opinion is that my dog never reached a level of intense focus that put her above my family.

She was my partner and constant companion and all that, but there is a point where one has to be realistic. They are pets, not people right?

Maybe they could set up another site for pet matches that turn into people matches based on that research.

Oh and there were 2 places my dog never went, the bedrooms and the kitchen. But part of that is an intelligent dog and very good training.

I don't think what you're suggesting really addresses the problem. There are people that post one-dimensional profiles around lots of different factors, pets are just one example. Even having some place to mention your preference doesn't prevent repeated preferences, I believe the you can already mention if you like animals in that little box that highlights things you and a match have in common.

I don't think that having one box to check off for pets is sufficient. You would have to list different pet types (dogs/ cats/ horses/ rodents/ arthropods/ reptiles/ etc. (that other dating website does this...) and some people may not have such a pet but not mind if their match does.

Kind of like preference for children, but without the allergic reaction (you know what I mean!)

Great idea! Maybe they could have a check box for political preference too.

And one for gun owners.

Oh, and another for your favorite color?

Get the idea? People are not check boxes.
