This morning after church, we celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary of one of the couples in our congregation. Sixty years! They were wearing grins from ear to ear.

Wow, sixty years! As much as monogamy completely appeals to me, I have not been able to imagine myself with one man for the rest of my life.

Have you, or could you, imagine yourself with the same partner for the rest of your life?

With *just* the right one? Yes.

My grandparents celebrated their sixtieth a few years back, in fact. *grin*

Yes, I could. I was "only" married for 33 years but I expected being with my now ex-husband for the rest of my life.

I expected to marry only once. After about fifteen years, it became apparent that it would be a long slog of despair, and though I wanted at first to stick it out, we amicably called it quits just before our thirtieth anniversary.

I was prepared to never have another go, but met someone wonderful and will try again. I figure if this one lasts the same amount of time, I'll be 86, so I definitely won't try a third time.

Absolutely! It's what I want most of all. I don't want a "string" of men. I want one man that I can know through and through. Coming to know a person inside out is the very best part of being with the "same partner for the rest of your life".

At my age, I think it quite reasonable for me to assume that the "next" one....."just the right one".....will be the "last" one.

The rest of my life would be good - with the right man. I'll never see 60 years with anyone. That window has been firmly shut by Father Time.

On a side note, I always get a little bemused when I see someone here posting about their long-term relationship that they then define as 6 months. That's not long-term. I've had toothaches that lasted longer than six months.

I hope you get those toothaches checked out lol. J/K

I could see myself spending the rest of my life with the right guy for me. It is what I want and will happen when the right one comes at the right time.

Yes. My 24th anniversary is coming up in a few weeks (26 years together) and I'm certain we will be together for the rest of our lives.

For me though, when single, it's always been a matter of when, not if, and with one of the right ones, not just the right one. I wonder if this outlook has made a difference in my ability to engage in relationships?

I love my wife, have committed myself to her, and can see very, very few reasons that would cause me to leave her. That being said, however, I'm confident that if she walked out on me tomorrow, I'd be with someone within 12-18 months about whom I would feel the same way. Not because I desire to be in a relationship for a relationship's sake, but because, and for whatever reason, I've been pretty good/lucky/?? at finding people that I mesh with throughout my life.
