Ever miss childhood?

If so, what do you miss about it?

I miss living a (relatively) worry-free life as a child!

If I had known then what I know now I would NOT have been in such a hurry to grow up...

I miss boundless energy. I miss never having aches or pains unless I actually hurt myself. I miss not having to think about finances. I miss the sense that life goes on forever. I miss my mother (now deceased).

Other than that? No!

I appreciated it...my parents did the best they could to give me what they themselves did and did not get growing up. What more can you ask for?

Being young is like having a brand new car and not knowing how to drive it...in your 30's you finally got a handle on yourself because you've had plenty of experience now and made most of your major mistakes...I can't finish the rest but I hope I can learn to corner well, break the speed limit and really makes some progress before I feel old age setting in and things start breaking down. There's only so many times you can be brought into the shop for service ya know..

Maybe my attitude comes from the fact I was born the year of the snake I live for change....and yes I can even appreciate those white hairs blooming in the middle of my head. I earned them

Until the fifth grade, I lived in a village next to a rain forest. Sometimes while walking to school there would be a group of monkeys. Once a while I found a dead fruit bat with its baby attached to it on the street. If the baby was alive I would bring it home and tried to take care of it. None survived though

Once I also found a baby kingfisher on the street and I tried to take care of it. I didn't know it ate fish so I gave it fruits and it didn't want to touch them. Doh!

I had my heart broken so many times because there were so many baby animals that I tried to take care of just died on me

And yes, I miss it now that I live in a modern world. I still want to take care of baby animals some day

I didn’t have a great childhood, but some great childhood moments! And, for those times and for the age that I was those great moments are a lot of fun to remember.

But, I guess in many ways I’m living my childhood now. I can do what I want, go wherever I want to go, play with whomever I want to play with, eat whatever I want whenever I want (cookies for breakfast, yeah!), watch whatever I want to watch on TV, go to bed whenever I want, stay up reading all night long if I want. It’s so cool to be a ‘big’ kid.

Of course I pay for any and all overindulgences, who doesn’t, and I crick more than I use to, but I love being able to get out there doing stuff with out restriction. It’s every kid’s dream!

We’ve all heard (or said) ‘when I grow up I’m going to…” and I am!!

Part of what is wrong with our culture is the perpetual childhood myth. Too many of us reach 30 or 40 years old and then think that is the time to grow up when in reality the time to grow up is much younger.

Nothing is a bigger turn-off than the lady I spoke with this week. 39 years old. Never married. Two LTRs. She told me she had to "sow her wild oats" and thought that it was now time to settle down.

All I cold think was, "Really? Why start now?"

I don't miss it, but I have always thought I had an ideal childhood.

Years ago, my sisters and I were talking with our Mother. The youngest and I (oldest) both said we had the ideal childhood. Our middle sister was amazed that we would think so. She didn't agree at all!

We're all so close in age we were all in High School at the same time. We all saw the same thing, but from different perspectives.....

And now that we're all grown up, it seems the middle sister is less happy, less content, than my youngest, or myself. Interesting that it never occurred to me before.

I wonder if it's all about the perspective?

I look back fondly on a lot of my past (my college years especially), but time doesn't stand still...I'd rather focus on living my life so that my current years are just as great, but for different reasons that reflect where I am now.
